BOD POD

The BodPod provides accurate body volume and body composition using air displacement plethysmography.

What is a Bod Pod?

Bod Pod uses air displacement to determine body composition (fat and fat-free mass) and volume. Similar to underwater weighing, the Bod Pod measures body mass using their scale, and volume by sitting inside the Bod Pod.

This test provides the following information:

  • Predictions of your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR), which is the amount of caloric energy needed to keep you alive (ex. Breathing and brain activity).
  • Total Energy Expenditure (TEE) which is RMR + estimated caloric energy expended daily based on daily activity level.
  • Your Optimal Caloric Intake per day
  • Progress report with history of tests.

How Should I Prepare?

In order to have the most accurate results, do not eat, drink, or exercise 2 hours prior to testing.

Wear minimal, form-fitting clothing.

Men: Form fitting Speedo® or Lycra/Spandex-type swimsuit, or single-layer compression shorts without padding.

Women: Form fitting Speedo® or Lycra/Spandex-type swimsuit, or single-layer compression shorts without padding and sports bra (no wiring).

A swim cap will be provided to compress your hair.

What to Expect?

Sit comfortably and quietly, relax and breathe normally. The exercise physiologist will go over the instructions with you. Sounds relating to the magnetic valves opening and closing will be heard and there will be slight pressure changes. This feeling is comparable to being in an elevator. The Bod Pod test will take about 5 minutes.
